Nobody knows. Either its a redacted email or one that wasn't released, or they called/texted or messaged via social media to finalize the plans.
It is, imho, extremely unlikely that they planned to get together, spoke repeatedly about it, then for some unknown reason, never "hung out" and just never spoke to each other again.
