The easy way to tell for sure is if Epic juat releases all their player records regarding this account; if they know it was a totally different account that changed it's name to this one, surely they have records of the name change and timestamps, right?
More importantly, how did “another random user” just happen to change his username to this one years before we knew what it was, in the files that just released?
A few days ago, an existing Fortnite account owner changed their username from something totally unrelated to littlestjeff1, following the revelation of littlestjeff1 as a name on YouTube.
You wouldn't even be able to change your username to littlestjeff1, given that the original account would have to be changed or deleted itself to free up the username.

Yeah, they were quick to do that. They also erased a lot of the archives pages showing the evidence. We have to take their word on the matter.
