As someone that modded a few fairly large subs I can tell you that the admins were very frequently in contact with power mods because they treat the faggots like foot soldiers. They would insert them into mod teams to watch "problematic" subs.

Realistically, Maxwell was the handler. I have no doubt that there are whole Mossad/CIA teams working behind the scenes on the actual overview and details. Epstein was the arm's reach face man and Maxwell was giving him assignments.

There was a knowledgeable user on that sub that would answer questions but in a gritty no BS anti hero funny way and the mods banned him for not being nice.
At least we have LLMs to replace being able to find old forum posts. It's not ideal but they're a billion times better than having to put up with faggy moderators and smug power users telling you they're not here to do your homework.
You're over emphasizing their influence, imo. There's so many things that influenced Reddit's shift. I noticed nearly all message board I was a part of shifted left over time because presumably, the right leaning people all got lives and didn't have time or the care to shitpost online. Then the government started implementing laws to encourage its DEI bs which the leftist leaned into hard.
