It's actually a justification for punishing sinners (criminals) & came long before the hippies :>
The idea is that forgiving people is very Christ-like, so when someone "sins" like... steals your goat & eats it? You should forgive them. Well you do, but you still punish the sin. Preferably with an iron rod.
Why should I forgive them? Sounds soft and cucked.
What if they rape and murder your daughter? You still going to forgive them?

The idea is that Jesus can & will forgive them if they convert. However? He is a "special case" and we're supposed to be "like Him" but are not required to BE Him. ie: no miracles needed to be a Christian, eh? That would seriously cut down the congregation size... 😄
You can "forgive him" while you throw the switch on "old sparky" to send him to the afterlife. In an ideal world.
The idea sounds dumb.
How about this: Do not forgive rapists and terrible pieces of shit. Even if they convert. Crazy idea, I know.
