Another nice thing about the bottom panel was the characters acted mature, and you could keep up with what was going on.
Many modern cartoon characters spaz out half the time and wildly shift how they feel by the second. It just kills whatever little immersion I already had in the cartoon. The modern cartoons that don't do that kill the immersion by shaking their political fingers in my face.
