A few years ago, under Obama, a very drunk Mexican guy blew through the traffic light in the center of a town about 4 minutes from where I sit. He hit another car and the woman driving that was paralyzed from the neck down. He had no papers, no history, no license, no habla englais. The police didn't even know what to do with him.
The woman received no settlement, no support from the liberal internet, nobody offering to martyr themselves, no mention in the newspapers or local news.
He was released. No jail. No deportation.
They're not grateful. There's no solidarity. Anyone willing to die for these people is welcome to throw their lives away.

Same story, same era, different town. No papers, no insurance, absolutely blasted on booze. Except this woman died in a fireball along with the passenger, and he'd already skipped town before they physically tracked him down. Her church spent more time praying he didn't end up getting treated "unfairly" than they did for her two kids. Insanity.
Bet half the counties in the country have a similar story.
You'd think, but there are police and there are Officer Tackleberry level cops who will play the game with superiors just to look good. In this case, I think it was a judge that made the bad call, which has been 90% of the problem with law enforcement in the past decade.

Since he had no papers, wouldn't it be fine to just burn the wetback and then say the nice boys in blue had a campfire event?
