If I'm choosing, I'd rather live in a society where "criminals in cars are shot when they threaten to kill cops by illegally fleeing the scene" as opposed to "cops must avoid obstructing the cars of criminals because they need clear lanes for when they try to escape."
Even if we were to live in a repressive police state, I'd rather have a repressive state that gives me clear lines of what not to do, rather than a narco-state that privileges a protected criminal class to break the law with impunity as long as they do it.
