Because whether he denies it or not, what he's describing is what stupid is.
Yeah, words like stupid, idiot, and moron have colloquially been used as insults for so long, most assume they're synonymous. But they used to be specific classifications of people.
The other thing that's important here, besides not self censoring out of fear of offending, is understanding what he's describing.
A reward/punishment system is not an unknown. It's something any parent or dog owner should be familiar with.

I used to play an old Frankenstein computer game, and when you messed up the doctor called you those depending on how bad you did. These days you can't even have fun shit talking. But, I had fun playing that game that shit talked me!
