I usually go to yard sales and estate sales from spring to fall but lately with the usual bipolar north Texas winter it’s been in the 70s and 80s so I hit up some yard sales and got some more Louis L’Amour books as well as a book written by the guy who wrote Lonesome Dove. I also want to get True Grit. I assume L’Amour is considered the GOAT when it comes to that drama but any other author recommendations?
I remember about 15 years ago really stocking up on L’Amour books at yard sales (still have a ton to read) because I guess people were selling books their dads probably read.
Thanks in advance
Colonel Dr. Sherman T. Potter was a big fan of Zane Grey.
Thanks! There was also a western show called Zane Grey theater back in the day. Didn’t know he was an author. Love Mash as well
If you haven't read James Fenimore Cooper's Leatherstocking novels, that's a strong recommend.
Thanks!
You'll never find any, but Fredric Brown wrote several Westerns. And Detective novels too. However? He's only known for his Sci-Fi / Fantasy works, which are good! iirc he hammered out over 1000 published works in spite of terrible "writers block".
Anything he's written? I've really enjoyed.
Will keep an eye out for him. Thanks! Any specific recommendations of his?
His Sci-fi works and collected stories are widely available. In many years of searching I have 2-3 detective novels and I think a western?
Martians Go Home is easy to find, and funny too! The guy had a remarkable imagination & sense of humour.
Ok. With Sci Fi I may have him already. Interesting how westerns mirror Sci Fi in some ways with exploration of a new frontier and settling and finding a way to live
