Can't quite say I agree with that claim, if their "niceness" means surrendering their culture and making their own native population subservient to foreign invaders.
I've seen it in Seattle. You aren't nice unless you do these things. In fact, the big argument right now is that you are being rude if you say no.
I find it more rude to expect or demand that everyone you meet should bend over to accomodate your beliefs.
