Bond was never a super conservative character to begin with. Yeah he's probably a little more patriotic than an average citizen, but other than that, he's never been treated as having old fashioned values. So what exactly are they changing to give him "modern values?"

GoldenEye had an entire scene where Judi Dench's M dressed Bond down for being "old fashioned".
