If I was a Ukranian soldier and the choice offered to me by my leader was either Ukraine becomes a Russian rump state or is permanently demographically changed by mass immigration, I would be a turncoat in an instant. One of those outcomes is recoverable, the other is not.
If you're someone of Russian ancestry living in Ukraine, Russia really doesn't even appear to be an enemy.
Hell, I'd even go so far as to say that the only people in Ukraine who should have any fear are actual Nazis/Azov battalion types. Russia has shown a tremendous amount of restraint despite the death wish that Ukrainian leadership has for its own soldiers.
Despite all the Western kvetching over Russia using the term "special military operation", they're being completely honest. If it were an actual war like the West keeps calling it, Russia would've gone scorched earth on Ukraine.
