Indeed. That's why Trump's refusal to release the files was so damaging. Everybody wants to believe that the government is completely corrupt (because it is). By doing what he did, it only made him appear to be part of the swamp.
Yeah, it was a terrible own goal, that I'm sure was at least partially if not entirely encouraged by the corrupt Israel-firsters around him.
