I was just discussing the Steamdeck with a coworker. We now have a console, head gear and new controller to go with it. If priced right, it becomes major competition for consoles.

MiniPCs are becoming impressive gaming machines for just a couple hundred bucks, while still being fully functional computers/media centers/etc - when valve came out with Steam Machines a while back, it seems they were just slightly ahead of the curve on these things, so it’s good to see they’re coming back to the idea now that you’re able to get so much more for your money compared to just a few years ago with these System On Chip setups
Combined with SteamOS, if they pull this off they could easily seal their control over PC gaming for the next 10 years
Can you mod games the same way you would on PC?
Definitely, these things are real computers in every way
Steam already has a few mods to download straight away.
I wish every game they sold had workshop integration. An annoying amount still make you go off-platform to hunt for the mods then spend a ton of time dicking around trying to get em working
I wouldn't mind off platform so much if nexus weren't such intolerable busybody faggots these days.
That would be great. Just getting them on the same system is great for me. I think I say this because my favorite mods are offered
It is a PC, so yes. Comes by default with Linux (SteamOS), but nothing would stop you from installing Windows on it.
