I have noticed a shift from Square Enix firing their California staff, Sony indicating they may focus only on Japanese devs and the success of the Demon Slayer and Chainsaw Man movies.
Hopefully Japan recognises they hold a LOT of cultural power thanks to their media, they just need to keep the parasites out and keep it authentic.
That may have been true 10 or 20 years ago, but good luck finding a lot of people abroad, or even locally, saying that they're still star wars fans today.
There's a difference between fans and consumers. Disney is making bank with their Star Wars areas. Universal is doing great with Nintendo and Harry Potter.
