That explains why the "global" services like IAM are actually in us-east-1. It does not explain why everyone is deploying on us-east-1. It is non-political, it just bugs me that people keep doing this because most examples are with us-east-1 region.
It’s easier for the CIA to keep tabs on them if it’s a short drive away; I just said that.
The DMV ( DC, MD, VA) area has power shortage issues. Now is not a good time to have this area at, or over capacity.

The state of Maryland shut down 5 power plants even after they were told this action was removing the backup network. It's not a matter of if the grid goes down, it's a when the grid goes down.
My guess is that there's a dropdown menu somewhere and us-east-1 is the first thing on that menu.
A less conspiratorial take, it's where bost of business data flows and the highest population density. Though, more capacity should exist to compensate. Except NY. They have draconian energy policies like Cali.

The fucking CIA gave Amazon a contract for $300,000,000 to build servers. Amazon built the servers. Guess who has back-end access. That’s AWS. Always has been. It was Amazon’s first profitable quarter in history. Bezos used the cash to buy the Washington Post, which is now a CIA propaganda outlet.
It’s all public information. They’re not hiding it. This is what happened.
