Our generation is running out of time to save the free Internet built for us by our fathers.
What was once the promise of the free exchange of information is being turned into the ultimate tool of control.
Once-free countries are introducing dystopian measures such as digital IDs (UK), online age checks (Australia), and mass scanning of private messages (EU).
Germany is persecuting anyone who dares to criticize officials on the Internet. The UK is imprisoning thousands for their tweets. France is criminally investigating tech leaders who defend freedom and privacy.
A dark, dystopian world is approaching fast — while we’re asleep. Our generation risks going down in history as the last one that had freedoms — and allowed them to be taken away.
We’ve been fed a lie.
We’ve been made to believe that the greatest fight of our generation is to destroy everything our forefathers left us: tradition, privacy, sovereignty, the free market, and free speech.
By betraying the legacy of our ancestors, we’ve set ourselves on a path toward self-destruction — moral, intellectual, economic, and ultimately biological.
So no, I’m not going to celebrate today. I’m running out of time. We are running out of time.

Everything else is built on this, and becomes near impossible without it.
My only critique is that "last generation with freedoms". Very few generations have had freedom since ancient history. Post baby boom has been one of the most convincing illusion of freedoms maybe ever maintained though, as they realized the power of mass state propaganda to guide the population.
But I will say the birth and universal proliferation of the free and open internet in that period of indirect control is the best window of opportunity to renew real freedom since probably 1776, and that window is rapidly closing and will likely be lost within our lifetimes without intervention.
But it's just human nature that the majority of people will avoid fighting on just a hunch, that the free internet might only be saved by a desperate, last-ditch effort isn't so much negligence as it is just the naturally most likely point to turn things around.
Whatever happened to the SOPA/PIPA pushback of the early 10s? The radical anarchist filesharing community? I know Anonymous went woke but how did everyone else just give up without a fight?
Anonymous never went woke. It was co-opted and subverted by the feds. Real "anonymoose" was dead around the time Five Guys occurred, and that's if it ever existed at all. The closest equivalent to true anonymous today (i.e. the altruistic stuff they did such as exposing animal abuse rings) was continued on places such as KiwiFarms.
A lot of that pushback was from Reddit, who have now been informed that they actually love censorship and government control of the internet.

This is also the reason why they allowed everyone to be so tech illiterate. Most people cannot even conceptualize how tech can be leveraged against them let alone having a basic understanding of how it works. This is the text book definition of don't educate a population to overthrow you, just in this case don't educate a population on something you're going to leverage against them.
The lowest common denominator and their ignorance is why they have so much digital power.

(For those out of the loop, a lot of the big IRC networks would ban your IP for a day if you picked a username their spam filters didn't like. It wasn't banning curse words or anything, just things they thought made you more likely to be a spammer, but decades of filters upon filters left it with nonsense cruft from long dead botnets)
My username here is based on my IRC handle. After trying several that were banned in seconds before posting a message, I wiggled my fingers on the keyboard in frustration. That somehow made it past the autobanners. So that is why my username is tralbolh.

Spot on….it fucking kills me to watch my generation witness the drastic changes we’ve undergone since the 1980’s to now, and none of them even recognize what has been lost already, and for those who do understand, they generally just don’t give a shit, like “it’s out of my hands so, what am I gonna do about it?” is the mentality they have.
For the last two decades+ I’ve been talking to people IRL, in comment sections of news articles, then on social media just railing against shit like the Patriot Act and the NDAA, against AIPAC and J’ish influence in our government, the wars for Israel, the enslavement grid that’s being built around us using our fucking tax dollars to make it happen, a grid that will surely be used against us in very evil ways someday, and nobody seems to care, decades wasted engaging people on these issues trying to get people to care and they just don’t care, they never did.
We had a chance to push back in the early 2000’s and maybe fix the many rapidly growing issues, but now we are in so deep I don’t even know what can be done to make a difference, a little public backlash isn’t going to be enough to stop the tyrannical shit that’s coming. Sadly, the foundation of that tyrannical system has already been laid, the enslavement grid is already in place, the traitors in our government just need to okay the policies that green light its use against us in ways that we can’t fight back against. Time is running out.
God I wish our side could organize like leftists, we would be able to give the subverted system some real pushback if we had a BLM sized movement that organizes IRL. We don’t even have a small group like that yet, and on top of that, way more than half of our people still think voting is the solution because apparently getting the exact opposite of what your side asks for every election cycle just isn’t a powerful enough wake up call, total abused wife syndrome.
I don’t want to say we are doomed, but, it’s hard not to feel that way some days.
The entire establishment is designed to prevent this from happening. Leftists are allowed to organize and fight in the open because they are tools of the establishment, rather than opposition to it. The same tactics will never work because we are fighting different enemies.
The silver lining is that the establishment is running on borrowed time. Europe is about to explode, and we aren't far behind. Once the first domino falls, the uniparty will find themselves fighting a global war on dozens of fronts. They know it too, which is why they are pushing so hard for control over all information.
Their desperation will only hasten their destruction.
Usually once the powder keg explodes we go back to monarchy and dictatorship, so while yes the leftists are on borrowed time, we aren't going back to the 1970s golden age.
I was wondering what ever came of Durov's arrest in France in 2024.
Wiki, with the obvious caveat, suggests the charges surrounding him being ambushed & arrested while passing through France on trumped up charges of Telegram not cooperating with French judicial demands, seems to be ongoing & unresolved.
His bail conditions prevent him from leaving France without permission. He was living in Dubai prior to his arrest. He also has French citizenship despite never being a resident beginning in 2021, possibly being processed as a meme.
Consider if the reason for the internet was exactly for this result.
Yeah I frequently find myself saying if the internet was invented today, they would ban it immediately. The free exchange of information is pretty much the only remaining threat to the establishment establishing an iron grip over us all.
