The GDP of Portland consists of protests and protest accessories. Nothing actually useful happens there, which is why they're worried military presence will ruin the city's economy.
I think you'll find that there are also Crystal shops, Weed shops, Gay merchandise shops, $30 burger shops, and Starbucks. They're more complicated than you give them credit for!
