I know Mussolini was popular. I wasn't denying that. I was just pointing out that he wasn't nearly as popular as Hitler among his own people. Or at least didn't command as much loyalty. When things get tough is when you truly know how popular a leader actually is.

Hitler was in awe of Mussolini. He was enormously popular among the working classes of Italy.
The Mafia hated him, the jews hated him. That makes him a +1 to me.
