If it were a lethal threat, then you can respond with lethal force.
A punch typically is considered ordinary force, unless you can reasonably articulate that it is lethal force (like getting knock-out game'd by Brock Lesnar).
The point of the law is that you do correctly identify a lethal threat and the response to it.
And any honest appraisal concludes that the mere act of taking a swing warrants a lethal response. However no part of our legal system is honest, which again is why you'll end up dead on the sidewalk for trying to work within that framework, you ignorant fool.
You should absolutely never say that out loud (as it will be used as a weapon against you), and you will go to prison if you follow through on it.
Like I said, articulation means a lot in self-defense.
