Surprised this was never posted: The ‘de minim is’ exemption for low value goods expires on August 29th, meaning tariffs on a lot of things are most likely going to rise. Just makes me wonder how much more expensive e-commerce is going to be (archive.ph)

A lot more. The ones that source from the US won't feel a thing. The ones that source cheap chink or paki labor? They're hosed.

Ending this hopefully shouldn’t cause a lot of anger in the US. This isn’t tariff negotiations, this is foreign companies blatantly cheating the system. Sadly I think too many people love their cheap Chinese trash to think logically.

This shouldn’t affect me hopefully, as my main purchasing from China has me paying expected shipping costs lol.

Drop shipping used to be the latest get-rich-quick scheme, but I think it fell off as Wish/Alibaba/Temu/Shein decided to cut out the middle man and sell chinkshit directly to consoomers.

My understanding is it was on low cost shipments, not necessarily goods. So if Walmart was importing a container ship of cheap Chinese toasters, they would have always been subject to whatever tariff applied at the time. If Temu was shipping single units from China to the consumer, it would fall under the exception.

So it mostly just affects drop shipping of foreign crap. Doesn’t bother me at all
