Half of her writing in the show focuses on her either doing random action scenes, or being in a love triangle. Seemingly because they had no idea what to do with her so they kept pairing her (and John) off with random people to give them something to do while the real stars did work.
They set her up with John Stewart and had an episode of her instigating a bar fight with aliens on another world, because that's what she likes: fighting and drinking. Afterwards, the Thanagarians arrived on earth and they revealed that she was sent as an operative of the Thanagarian army to spy on earth.
Its been like 20 years for me (god its been that long since it aired), so literally all my memory of her as a character is "fly in and try to hit them with a mace."

They portrayed her as a roughhouser, who was more man than your typical guy.
