DnD can be all sorts of shit. It can be paladins and wizards or it can be clowns at a circus. All it is is fighting monsters and cooperative interaction in the end.
You don’t have to play it that way. You can still do what you like with the lore you’re familiar with
I’m “defending” it by explaining that different people are gonna play different forms of the game. Whatever reason it’s DnD related I won’t specifically know because stories are vastly different across campaigns.
A homebrew is a homebrew, and it can be whatever the DM wants. You don’t have to play it. If anything it’s adding more interest and intrigue to the industry.
