Yeah if you want a ring a simple silver or gold band is fine. If you want a gem there are cheap ones that still look good and synthetic gems. There is no reason to spend a huge amount for one other than wasting money.
Used market too. $300 - $500 will get you a very nice piece that would normally otherwise cost you 5 - 20x the price.
With a shovel and a little elbow grease you can get one for free.
