For various context/examples of this in the past,

guy tries to help woman being shouted at, woman turns on him and helps the guy doing the shouting attack the saviour

guy tries to help woman being shouted at, gets shot by the guy shouting who was a member of a local gang

It really can go from 0-100 fast because you know nothing about what is happening or who is involved.
