Well, I should clarify it's not widely accepted out of japan because it's a japanese payment processor. Most banks I know don't offer JCB but do offer visa and master.
it's a bit like alipay or wepay, which is used by China. But because so many fucking chinese go on trips overseas, you see more countries internationally use them.
Wasnt there a other post that only 17% of japanese have passports? Versus like 80% of british and 50% of americans? So japanese doesnt really visit other places to use their JCB.

Last I knew, they had reciprocal agreements with Novus (Discover) and American Express, where if a place accepts those it probably accepts JCB.
But that was back when non-Japanese citizens could get JCB cards so I don't know how much that has changed.
Hmmm. Im not sure about novus but ive seen places with the amex sign next to visa and mastercard but no jcb sign
