The biggest loss from COVID for kids was losing the chance to witness and learn from non-verbal communications and ques, something chatbots can't help with.
If someone had friends already they could still text them probably an okay amount, but the loss of face to face interactions is killer on a developing mind. Heck its killer on an adult because humans need socialization.
You are right that a lot of kids lost non-verbal communications but many lost the ability to verbally communicate to others. The lockdowns created something akin to an environmental based non-verbal autism. As a replacement, these robots will make it worst by a long shot. As a slow progression to talking to other kids, it would be a great first step to get them to communicate again.

I assume you still went to school and existed in public to some amount, which is still more than a lot of these kids got for those years.
