Because Californie controls people's perceptions of the world, and they have spent the last few decades associating pedophilia (a major evil with no questionable factors) with ephebophilia (the age where they are usually questionably indistinguishable from legal 18-23~ year olds).
The Law and Order meme of "SHE WAS 17 AND 364 DAYS OLD YOU SICK FUCK" isn't around because its parody. Its something a lot of people truly believe, and you can see it in a lot of "cancel" attempts online.
Fun fact, by the time someone legally turns 18 they will be somewhere around 6'574 days old, despite 18x365 = 6570. So someone who is 17 and 364 days old will in fact be around 6573 days old.
