1/3 of the cases brought to prosecutors by police gets prosecuted. That's not a damning number for prosecutors and cops are framing people. That's more a damning number for prosecutors are fucking lazy

https://www.nippon.com/en/japan-topics/c05401/order-in-the-court-explaining-japan%E2%80%99s-99-9-conviction-rate.html

And even the people the police interview, a lot of them go free.

"The overall arrest rate for criminal offenses was 46.6%, but for major crimes including murder and robbery, it was 93.4%."

https://www.statista.com/statistics/1264432/japan-crime-rate-by-offense/

I'm not saying that they're not brutal on suspects, but that's because ot be a suspect at that point, you're almost certainly considered guilty by them that they think they can win in court against you.

Is that good or bad? I rather a system that was harsher on criminals than one that was softer on them in case an innocent was convicted

So they are lazy until they are evil, I'll give you that caveat though it doesn't change my problem with their entire setup.

Once they actually decide to do something, the brutalize and toss away any amount of fairness or justice just to make sure they pin it on whoever they have decided is guilty. Which is the exact problem I've been outlining.

Beating, drugging and kidnapping someone until they confess to a crime they might not have committed just so you can say "we charged someone, success!" is a horrific abuse by the government in all ways and its concerning you seem to want to wave it off.

Is that good or bad?

Well as someone who was both falsely accused of a major crime in my youth and then falsely MeToo'd so a girl could get out of paying rent, I'd say its pretty fucking bad because I'd absolutely be a marked felon under that system instead of the case having to drop from lack of evidence, before being expunged due to becoming obviously false. Our system not being like theirs is why I'm a happy family man who can work his current career and have a gun to protect myself/family with.

I'd rather we not have a justice system period if we are going to just start letting the government "be harsher" by letting them just decide to ruin innocent people to "maintain their record" and other meaningless whims. Especially after Covid showed how much they want to just imprison and charge people for literally nothing.

That's basically how it works everywhere in the world tbh.

And as a victim of previous crime i rather more criminals be charged than let go out of fear the cops are being too brutal

As a victim of previous crimes I'd rather the police not exist at all, they'll take the report and tell you to your face that nothing will be done about it while at the same time preventing mob justice.

So we should hurt more innocent people because you had your own innocence hurt by a criminal?

Just bankrupt infinite masses of people trying to defend themselves against random accusations and charges, and let's make sure those defenses are basically useless anyway because we just beat them until they confess to the crime! That's hard evidence they did it, according to the Japs.

You should work on whatever trauma you got from that my guy, clearly you've lost the plot in your quest for emotional revenge. Most of us have also been victimized by a crime too, its why half of this place is as racist/misogynist as we are.

If you want brutality, be a man and go brutalize whoever got you instead of trying to push it off to daddy government.

If criminals go free, they're going to hurt more innocents anyway. You're mistaken if you think more innocent people are going to be incarcerated than criminals in japan.

Maybe you should work on your OWN trauma of being falsely accused in whatever country and realise this is a different country.

I mean if the police let me in on beating the criminals, I'd join but unfortunately I was mugged while overseas in Europe so I don't even know if they caught the fucker.
