Ok, this is the BAD ENDING to carrying on YouTube WELL past your 'prime'..
(Points at Pewdiepie) This is the GOOD ENDING of retiring at your peak and living your life, uploading when YOU want to. I mention him now especially as some on the salty left are mentioning he JUST left the top 10 subscribed Youtuber charts despite being retired for years..
Jon very early pivoted into a whole production company, well above what he needed for his own videos. His stuff seemed to just be for his own amusement and quick cash infusions rather than a career by that point. Which is why he uploads so rarely.
No actual idea. The only confirmation we has is he makes some commercials without his face in them (meaning we don't even know which ones they are), but if you look at the size of his crew and background work area its very clear they do more than just his videos. Shit he got a few guys from Industrial Light and Magic that he named in one video, which means he has connections too.
I honestly think if other youtubers used him they'd credit it, as he is a huge name in that sphere, and we haven't seen that at all. So they must be used elsewhere.
Once you get out of the "hobby" level and try to make it a job its very much in the "oil field" situation. Where you need to be making and investing every penny as fast as possible before that gravy train runs out, and it will quickly unless you are part of a small, small group.
Boogie COULD have had a good end. He had so many off-ramps and friends encouraging him to better himself. He could have gotten his weight under control, find new hobbies, and quietly matured alongside his audience as he dedicated himself to a new passion.
He threw it all away because he's a impulsive fat fuck with zero self-control. Now he's doomed to be a maladjusted lolcow for terminally-online autists.
What are your thoughts on James Rolfe AKA Angry Video Game Nerd?
He has kept going long after his material has stopped being good, and (relevant to his AVGN costume) is balding in the worst of ways (see his Glitch Gremlin reunion episode for an excellent example).
Rather than getting hair plugs, getting a convincing wig (emphasis on "convincing", see his Dragon's Lair pt 2 video) or shaving it all (kind of like Doug Walker AKA Nostalgia Critic), he's decided to really lean into it for comedy's sake, and all I can do is shake my head in pity.
Edit: To lighten the mood, sometimes I sing the line "where did their hair go?" from his Ikari Warriors video, because it is so prophetic in an ironic way.
He probably should've changed what he is doing or stopped routinely posting, just making videos when he feels like it.
The worst thing you can do is stay with the same thing forever as eventually, you stagnate. As again, look at Pewdiepie, he ROUTINELY changed what he was doing and got new audience while keeping his old. Hell I hated his early work with the scarecam reaction shit but liked him years later, ironically around the fiver scandal.

Jontron seems to have done well too

Does he hire out his crew to other youtubers?

The saying Jim had:
"You got 5 years to make your money, invest it well then get out!"
