My evidence for this is the fact that the Houthis successfully chased away the US navy using 1/10th the resources and firepower. It turns out US pilots are not combat capable. When someone fires an AA missile even vaguely in their direction, they panic and crash.
The F-18s lost to the Houthis were results of carrier mishaps, not defensive maneuvering in flight. Interesting theory though.

One was friendly fire from a missile cruiser of some sort, one fell off.
I think that's the only two, but I could be missing one.
There was yet another F-18 that fell off a carrier after the first one fell off
Then I did miss that one. Or I saw it but thought it was the same story.
