Mario isn't super egregious imo. There are a few girl-boss sequences, but Mario still is the one who saves the day. While annoying, I feel like it was more an attempt to increase market appeal than propagate The Message.
No i mean that as an example of positive characters for both boys and girls. I dont see any girl bossing at all tbh. There's no moment where peach updates Mario just because.
And no "Oh cause I'm a guuuurrrlllll"
She acts like peach. The only hit at anything is the obstacles course, which isn't laid out as a humiliation, just thay Mario is Italian and not a mushroom.
