The guy behind Zeal & Ardor was literally getting trolled on 4chan and turned around and took their joke about "black metal and nigger music" to inspire him to make a song out of old slave blues but about Satan (because black metal). And now he has a real band that tours and everything out of it.
So you can even take a racial narrative and create something new and interesting if you are willing to be weird, cringe, and put in the effort anyway.
I was intrigued by the clip since it seemed to be the most racist thing I've ever seen in my life. A branded black guy chained up like a feral youkai, peering uncomprehendingly at European art while negro spiritual chants play.
So I looked it up and I see where the 'weird and cringe' comes in. The director and the liberal establishment like Vice and MetalHammer are champions of this shit because they are hardwired for negro sympathy. The only thing they want to do is unchain the demon and let him fly. Black metal always subverts normie morality, but in this case the subverter is just cheering on a bioweapon against its betters. That might sound like the most racist description possible, but I felt sincere pity for the black guy duped into appearing in this vid.
Keep us posted on whether or not this zeal & ardor guy ever reaches the logical endpoint of his larp which I reached in 3 seconds. Could be a Sinfest situation (I had to refresh my memory on his name which I did via searching 'japanese lefty webcomic guy turns right wing').
I mean, he was a black guy actually posting on 4chan of his own volition, so being racist wasn't anathemic to him like it would normal people. If I recall he said the song was meant to be "what if slaves didn't find Jesus, but Satan instead" and the video reflects that in a very generic way.
Its basic black metal nonsense, which is itself always "wierd and cringe," but its at least unique.
I don't know anything else by him, nor care to, because Satan, but as a Cajun I'm wired to enjoy negro spirituals as a musical genre.

If accounts of the conquest of Benin are anything to go by, satan was already well known in West Africa back when the natives were selling off prisoners as slaves. The tl;dr is that after ambushing and killing a bunch of Brits, they tried to stop the resulting punitive expedition by torturing a ton of slaves to death in blood magic rituals. The details are fucking horrifying and shouldn't be looked up unless you have a strong stomach.

I had never heard of that song before. Thanks
