People would probably argue that they were appropriately charged and convicted through the legal system. Supposedly that would sufficiently "ruin" them. As of yet, vocalizing the nigger word is not illegal (nationwide).

The problem is that the 'unequal punishment' argument loses some weight when the state 'criminal justice' process (which is quietly assumed to be agreeable to the whole community) runs its course. "They've been punished enough" according to the rules that our elected representatives have bestowed us.
