I noticed that, too, when I was preparing my response. It’s very heartening, and points toward the bigger issue with the Democrat/Republican divide I’ve noticed. Republicans are largely principles-based. So, yeah, if they see one of their own proposing something that goes against the party’s general principles (smaller government, upholding rights, etc.) they’ll turn on them. Democrats are much more ad-hoc in their beliefs so the they’ll mindlessly adopt positions regardless of whether they contradict each other and not even notice because unity is more important than sense.
My quick Googling tells me the "far right" Republicans are the ones opposing it. I'm surprised your leftie friends sent it to you.
