It remains to be seen though what becomes of the Republican party in 3 years without Trump as the driving force.
Crashouts like Vivek over the H1b stuff over Christmas suggest that their bench strength isn't deep and the party could easily slip back into either Mitt Romney cowardice or neocon warhawk McCain archetypes.
I think what it really will come down to is if Trump names his own successor. Which seems likely as I doubt he will keep quiet after he leaves. And considering how Obama has been, the Dems don't have much leg to prevent that.
But Trump is really bad at picking people. He has a lot of great ones and a lot of really fucking bad ones too. So that's a big gamble.
