The U.S. State Department backed a revolution that overthrew the Ukrainian president on 22 February, 2014. Russia invaded on 24 February, 2014.
Ukraine had nuclear weapons and agreed to disarm under the conditions the Russians promised no armed conflict. They get rid of their nukes and Russia attacks. Big kek.
And Zelenskyy's term didn't start until 2019. He gave Russia prisoner swaps, etc. to prevent the invasion, but Russia attacked anyway.
Zelenskyy tried to mend its relationship with it's breakaway regions and Russia. Putin's a warmonger, plain and simple.
