I chalk it up to it being the year the US left the gold standard.
It wasn’t just that though, I remember something significant about home lending changed which exploded bank profits, and something about mass immigration and wage stagnation with women being forced into the workplace.
Even before that in February of the same year was when the UK decimalized their currency, moving away from their old monetary system.
