I might be missing something here, but aren't they right?

William Mapother is playing "Marine Sergeant Thomas." Thomas is black. Mapother is not.

The ironic part here, the other marine, Dave Karnes, didn't get anywhere near as much attention in the real world, and the movie apparently does him dirty too, because the director had an axe to grind or something.

From Wikipedia:

Rebecca Liss of Slate magazine observed, "The film seems to overplay his [Dave Karnes] zeal without conveying his motivations and reasoning." It notes he is unfairly portrayed as "a robotic soldier of Christ—a little wacky and simplistic."

So, yeah, I might be totally missing the point, but where's the projection in this instance? Race swapping real, living people is pretty tasteless, in any direction.

Thomas was portrayed in Oliver Stone's feature film World Trade Center by William Mapother. This portrayal by a white actor generated controversy, and the producers stated that they were unaware that the real Thomas was black until they had already started filming.

That's the most pathetic excuse ever, actually, and makes them look worse. Did you even talk to the people you were basing the movie around? Holy fuck.

EDIT: Thinking about, I think I missed the forest through the trees; the projection/hypocrisy is that they cheer on raceswaps the other way. And that's true, but they're still right in this instance, and this is a really shitty - and downright offensive - casting decision. But yeah, they have no moral high ground, since the point is just hating white people, and they have no consistent principles.
