Elon is an autist with a contrarian streak. He will be on whatever side is the opposite of what's earning his ire and mockery that day.
That's why he is both a useful tool right now and a dangerous liability to be watched outside of the narrow scope.

I can tell you've not met enough autists in your life to think they aren't capable of lying. You realize there are multiple levels that range from "kinda wierd" to "slamming their forehead into a wall all day?"
I don't doubt he meant it, because he lacks the emotional capability to not think in pure numbers like an autist. He has no loyalty to this land, or these people, or anything that isn't his autistic obsessions. Its why he keeps breeding kids that he has no intention to raise.
