It is a similar situation to "climate change": doubting the science offends the delicate sensibilities of the professional class, who take it as an affront to their moral right to make all decisions for us, the unwashed and uncredentialled masses.
I just tell them to advocate for going to war with China and India. It shuts them up pretty quickly.
