At least with actors and other celebrities you can still mock them for being mediocre. Not saying it doesn't require any skill, but the vast majority of these retards aren't even at the top of their own fields. They're famous, that's different than being elite or amazing.
This might be a bit disappointing, but intelligence research has found that chess grandmasters have average IQs. It might just be a learned skill.

I honestly don't understand why people talk about actors and celebrities at all. If Americans spent 1/100 of the time they spend on thinking and talking about celebrities on science, we'd have cold fusion by now. Sort of like the Family Guy cartoon in "Ireland before alcohol".
Yeah, it is it a little disappointing, but it does seem that things like chess are just an acquired skill, although like with most sports, it does help to start very young.

Same reason they talk nonstop about their retarded and uninformed political opinions; because the media pushes it. Without the media, you think anyone would care much about Orange Man, for example?
Celebrity worship (at least to this extent) is pushed, not natural. People will always cheer on visible people at the top of their field, but this level of celebrity culture is artificial, and a useful tool by the establishment.

*Puts on tinfoil hat* EXACTLY!
And I'm only half kidding. Keeping the people docile really does also give those in control the power to dictate what technologies are recognized and which aren't allowed to exist.

I recently encountered someone with severe TDS. It was quite shocking, because he's normally rational. I'm not sure how to handle that. Grumbling about Trump being stupid or bad, that is easy enough to parry, but full-on derangement?
That said, I also think that the attacks on the Orange Man has helped solidify our support for him. It is said, I don't know if it's true, that the American communists had new recruits hand out flyers in very anti-communist areas. This so that they would be attacked, and this would in turn solidify their commitment to the group. It creates assibiya.

But Taylor Swift is a stupid whore. People don't know the leading US physicist, let alone cheering him.

So is Kasparov, and he's an absolute jackass NPC and imperial bootlicker.
Fischer stood up to the Empire at great personal cost.
Man, genius NPCs are the worst.

That's actually pretty cool if true
I more meant "genius" as in top of their field.

Panem et circensis?
