RIP. Another reminder of getting old is all the people you watched on TV dying one by one.
As for Space Ghost, it remains the most neglected franchise WB owns. How many stupid Scooby-Doo reboots have they tried forcing while Space Ghost comics continue to sell and the old show is pirated, shared and commented on YouTube? Pedowood doesn't have a clue what they're doing!
I didn't realize that Space Ghost Coast to Coast and Art Bell'sCoast to Coast AM were different things.
As in, I wasn't aware of the existence of the cartoon, but assumed people were referring to Art Bell when referring to Space Ghost. I assume Art Bell's late night radio show was in inspiration for Space Ghost from 1994, but couldn't find a mention on the Wiki.
I heard Danny Polishchuk, Ryan Long's right hand man, describe the inspiration for his own call-in show Low Value Mail as being Space Ghost and thought he was referring to Bell.
In the 90s, I had a small portable radio with a long antenna that I'd use to try to pick up AM radiowaves from Great Lakes stations under the covers.
I was mostly looking for ball games and sports talk, but would often only be able to pick up Bell in syndication.
Oh no! That's a real shame. Guy was an icon. He did a lot of stuff with AS, back in the day, besides just Space Ghost. Although that was certainly his most famous work, and was pretty much responsible for AS becoming its own thing in the first place.
I think I was about 12 when SGC2C came out. I had no idea what was going on, but I'm pretty sure that show was the kicking off point for the absurdist era of Adult Swim comedies. Sealab, Aquateen, The Brak Show, etc. Back in the late 90s/early 00s that stuff was all the rage in high school. Homestar runner had the same vibe and probably only got popular because shows like those, and SGC2C blazed the trail.
It's been a long fucking time, is stuff like that even still popular? I can't imagine teens today watching some of the more esoteric and ultra-dry jokes from Sealab and thinking it's funny.
It wasn't just the kicking off of era for Adult Swim, it kicked off Adult Swim, period. They leveraged the success of Space Ghost and managed to turn it into Adult Swim. Without Space Ghost, no Adult Swim.
Monday Night wrestling wars then SGC2C was a Monday ritual in the late 90's. Proof that times like those are definitely best appreciated when they are being lived...
Damn. Remember seeing that on cartoon network late at night and not understanding whats going on or the humor.
There is a reason that the show's biggest fans were all stoners.
... Don't look at me

No, it shifted to offensively stupid nonsense like Tim and Eric over a decade ago and now its that high energy, meme heavy zoomer shit.
RIP to the king of AS. Knifin Around and that episode where he follows an ant for ten minutes still pops into my head to this day and makes me laugh
I going to follow this ant home, kill its whole family
