Nah, pre-2010's internet was full of shitposting using nazi imagery. Remember the "Hitler did nothing wrong" from the Dub the Dew campaign? It was the easiest way to be edgy and shock people.
I think the nazi hysteria resurfaced after the Occupy movement...
Happened long before that, Nazi uniform was a fairly frequent costume party piece, including by British royalty.
