I wouldn't doubt a lot of homeless aren't even there by choice. A good amount are there because they went into convulsions or passed out or whatever on the street and a "good samaritan" called 911 and then bailed to let us as taxpayers cover the bill.
Not the majority, as the painkiller reason is likely that, but not a rare occurrence either. Especially if its a woman dying in the gutter, that'll get attention in 2 minutes.
Isn't the homeless using our emergency rooms as urgent health care clinics also a huge issue as well?
Homeless tie up urgent cares and ERs claiming to get into fake accidents to score painkillers.
Yeah, some ARE chronically sick though, and a lot of them are mentally ill - i.e. bring back asylums again.
