I once tried food from a black restaurant because I was curious. Fried chicken, mashed potatoes, and mac and cheese. Everything was over salted, like holy shit. Only thing saltier I ever tasted when I bought a pie and whoever baked it obviously used cups of salt instead of sugar. To this day I'm not sure if that's how they really eat or if they did it to spite me because I was white, but goddamn.
It's probably not you, they don't have modern dietary disciplines despite being genetically prone to gout, diabetes and heart diseases, imagine giving a stone age race unlimited supply of nearly free salt, fat and carbs
Salt is literally the cheapest flavoring agent. It is the one seasoning it costs almost nothing to add.
It is the acquired taste of utter poverty that has become a cultural point of pride.
