AC1 was literally stripping the Christian-Muslim conflict into: "The Templars (ancient alien worshiping authoritarians) are a global threat to all Earth." The Hashishins are not even Muslim in the game. They are explicitly just a secret society of assassins for hire that have a long standing conflict with The Templars as a faction that crosses all known religious and political boundaries.
