A large component of that is the false belief of tabula rasa, the idea that people are blank slates, and can be whatever they choose, completely detached from genetics, environmental factors, or logic.
The people that believe this aren't logically consistent (big shocker). They first went after the role of genetics, in how it defines us and affects everything about us (because racism bad, but only with people, because genetics absolutely determines plant and animal behavior). But, the variable of environmental factors is applied hypocritically, where some things are determined by environment (crime, wages, schooling, welfare use, i.e. any statistic showing disparity between races), but some things aren't (like sexual preference, which is completely a personal choice, and people can be anything they want, but their preference is also "who they were born as", you bigot Nazi). It's a clusterfuck of logical inconsistency, and the central idea, that we're separated from the things which affects us, is core to this stupidity.
The funny part about Tabula Rasa is that even Psychology, a field almost entirely owned by Lefist ideology, discarded it within a decade as complete nonsense that failed every test they tried to prove it. And not even a quiet "on page 7" discarding, but outright tossed out openly and they've gradually went the complete opposite direction, with acknowledging more and more that Nature is the more dominant force.
So even less so than normally, it has no backing whatsoever. They literally just say "this sounds good" and let people who write activist books create beliefs for them wholesale*.
Which is why they can have such completely inconsistent pieces. Because its being created from nothing as they go along with no actual substance backing it.
*John Money is one everyone here knows, and his "experiment" failed so entirely that it proved the opposite hypothesis and he just went ahead and called it a success. But he is just the most notable one because of the tranny menace. A lot of very otherwise legitimate researchers at the time put their everything into trying to prove Tabula Rasa and got nowhere. But their foundational texts from earlier in their career keep getting used as proof even though they followed those up with proving otherwise.
