I don't know why, but there are separate "tags" and "flairs." Maybe one is relevant to kia2 and the other to the wider .win site. Anyways, you can apply an "old" flair (it's the only option here) to your own post after posting.
Hmm looking more into it I think the tags are some sort of legacy, cause can't edit them nor use them in my test forum (which should use the more modern style), which means that it is only flairs and those need to be added by admin and then applied as you said.
