So sick of this nonsense. If we're not going to get term limits we should demand that any legislator over 65 needs to be required to take a cognitive assessment every 6 months to continue voting.
I still think demanding they step into a boxing ring against their opponent would sort a lot of things out. It's a de facto age limit and it filters out abject cowards from being able to hold office.
Not sure it's something I'd actually advocate for, but we need to start at least brainstorming what sort of incentive structure we want in place to encourage a better quality of candidate than what we're currently getting.
It's a good gate, but I think we still need some additional mechanisms to filter for good policy-making. Unfortunately I am not a sufficiently clever man so I'm not sure what we'd use.

I disagree.
We should just go the other way and allow Ficus trees or other botanical specimens to hold office.
At least we can be honest that they are a useless puppet.
Just give the position to a horse, and count on his Nay vote.
What's the national tree of Israel?
Just fill it with a few hundred potted versions of those.
If I had to guess by the amount of shilling, I'd say the Ein Sheimer apple. Because holy crap can the Israelis not shut up about that shitty apple.

As a plus side, your idea would pretty much remove all women from running for office.
Hmm. I'm struggling to think of a better notion to gatekeep political office, but I can't think of anything more effective.
Delete universal suffrage and institute a starship troopers type system where the vote is earned through potentially fatal civic service jobs.

It would be easier to gatekeep who votes.
